The young man comes up to the viewer with his bathing bag and towel. In the next image, he seems to be preparing to jump into the pool. He is shown seemingly pushing himself off the edge of the pool. A view through a door catches the bather. In one image, he even appears to swim past the viewer. And finally, he dries himself off, half his face covered by the bath towel. The viewer of the pictures is quickly caught by the different actions, because everyone simply knows them. But suddenly one also perceives the emptiness of the water pool. And is irritated at first. Then the absurdity of these seemingly everyday situations becomes clear.
In his black-and-white photographs, Arne Pöhnert cleverly works with the blurs in the image. The swimmer is shown in front of a blurred background. At the same time, the location of the action, the old swimming pool, is always present. Somewhere in the depth of the picture, the two mosaics by the Wanne-Eickler artist Edmund Schuitz can be vaguely glimpsed. The empty indoor swimming pool thus becomes the stage for a theatrical production.
